Year 6 pupils from Marlborough College Malaysia put their mathematical thinking, teamwork and problem solving skills to the test at the AIMS Maths Competition held at Taylor’s International School Puchong in May 2026.

Eight pupils represented Marlborough College Malaysia across two teams during the competition, which brought together 42 teams for a series of mathematical challenges designed to test speed, reasoning, resilience and collaboration.

Strong Results for Marlborough College Malaysia

The Marlborough teams delivered a strong performance across the two day competition.

The school’s Algebra Tackling Titans finished sixth overall, narrowly missing fifth place by just two points, while the Sum Squad placed 16th among the 42 participating teams.

The pupils also secured top three positions during individual competition rounds. Marlborough College Malaysia recorded a third place result in the individual papers and a second place finish in the Number Crush round.

Mathematics Beyond the Classroom

The competition challenged pupils through a varied programme of activities extending beyond conventional written mathematics.

Teams tackled construction challenges inspired by the Petronas Towers, code breaking exercises, mystery number problems and a mathematics trail around the host school. Pupils were also required to complete an intensive individual paper consisting of 120 questions in 50 minutes.

The format encouraged pupils to apply mathematical concepts under pressure while working both independently and collaboratively.

For Marlborough College Malaysia, the competition also provided pupils with an opportunity to represent the College alongside peers from other schools while developing confidence, resilience and teamwork through competitive mathematics.

A Broader Academic Experience

Participation in competitions such as AIMS adds another dimension to classroom learning by giving pupils opportunities to apply knowledge in unfamiliar situations and work through complex problems collaboratively.

The Year 6 results highlight a strong showing for Marlborough College Malaysia, with both teams performing competitively across the overall rankings and individual rounds.

Marlborough College Malaysia is an independent British boarding and day school in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, educating pupils from ages 3 to 18.
