What are UNIS Hanoi's admissions procedures?
+Applications for the new academic year typically open in late January. The school also considers applications on a rolling basis, subject to space availability. Families may contact the Admissions Office for further details.
What are UNIS Hanoi's admission's assessments?
+If an applicant does not have recent standardised test results from the past academic year, assessments are arranged as part of the admissions process. UNIS Hanoi administers assessments according to the applicant’s school division and academic background.
Elementary School (Grades 1–5)
- Applicants who have attended an English-speaking school for at least one year may be required to complete the MAP Screener, a shortened version of the MAP Growth assessment.
- Grade 1: Early numeracy and early literacy
- Grades 2-5: Language, mathematics, and reading
- Applicants in Grades 1-5 who are new to an English-speaking school may be assessed in English as an Additional Language to determine their English proficiency level.
Secondary School (Grades 6–12)
- Applicants entering Grades 6–12 without a recent standardised test are required to complete the ISEE assessment. This is administered online and proctored by a member of the admissions team.
- An English-language assessment (WIDA) is scheduled to determine the applicant’s English proficiency. Applicants must meet the minimum programme entry requirements. The assessment may be conducted online or in person, depending on location and access.
What does it mean to be a UN School?
+UNIS Hanoi has a longstanding relationship with the United Nations, which forms a central part of the school’s identity. While the school is not an official United Nations agency, it is one of only two United Nations international schools worldwide.
The school’s educational approach is guided by the principles of the United Nations, with a focus on peace, international understanding, and global responsibility. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking, compassion, and resilience, preparing them to engage thoughtfully with global challenges and contribute positively to their communities.
