Primary School Vice Principal (Special Responsibility (G4/5)

The successful candidate will be a highly resourceful and forward-thinking collaborator, passionate about experiential learning. They will bring with them a passion for interdisciplinary learning and a rich understanding of concept based teaching and learning. The successful candidate will recognise the power of learner agency in building compassionate and efficacious students. In line with our mission, they will contribute to our collective efforts and learning in the area of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion which is not only a focus for the Primary School but across the whole College. They will also possess a range of strategies to build effective and engaging working relationships with students, colleagues and parents.

Main Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Primary School Vice Principal fall under the following headings and involve the full spectrum of responsibilities a Vice Principal role would entail:

  • Culture of Care and Wellbeing
  • Staff Leadership
  • Leadership of Learning
  • Strategic Development
  • Operations

The role carries a special responsibility for two specific grades, (most likely G4/G5 at this time).

In addition to this, there will be mutually agreed whole Primary School focus and the possibility of a K12 area to lead or support in. Currently this is in the area of Learner Agency and Interdisciplinary Learning.

Expectations and Standards

  • Follow the UWCSEA Professional Code of Conduct  and Safeguarding Code of Conduct.
  • Lead in line with the UWCSEA Leadership Standards
  • Teach in line with the UWCSEA Teacher Standards   

Person Specifications

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A relevant degree and a recognized professional, Primary teaching qualification or certification are essential.
  • A higher degree is desirable.
  • The Primary School is looking for a strong educational leader with extensive Primary class teaching experience across the Primary age range.
  • The successful candidate will have
    • a minimum of 5 years experience
    • experience of successfully leading and managing teams
    • extensive experience of leading professional development to improve student learning
    • experience in a Primary leadership role would be advantageous
  • To add value to our current team we are interested in a person with the following  skills and qualities:
    • Understanding of the pedagogy of an agentic, inquiry-based learning environment.
    • Knowledge of international curricula, concept-based teaching, learning and assessment.
    • High level knowledge, experience and capacity in leading staff in the development of interdisciplinary learning experiences.
    • Passionate and knowledgeable about increasing learner agency and self directed learning.
    • Focused on promoting high quality, rich authentic learning experiences for students.
    • Proven ability to develop and lead learning for staff and students in an international school context.
    • Awareness of current issues and trends in holistic education.
    • Ability to support the development of organisational culture through wellbeing.
    • Ability to think strategically both independently and in a collaborative environment.
    • Experience with coaching and mediating thinking.
    • Confident and competent in developing positive, collaborative and caring relationships with students, families and colleagues.
    • Ability to develop a sense of community and generate trust with all stakeholders.
    • Detail-oriented but with flexibility.
    • Excellent self-management skills.
    • Always model the values of  honesty, integrity and compassion
    •  Possess a sense of humour and not take oneself too seriously
    • Fluency in English and excellent communication skills: written, spoken and in presentations.
