Advanced Placement (AP)
The Advanced Placement (AP) programme is a US-based academic pathway that offers university-level courses to high school students. Developed by the College Board, AP allows students to undertake rigorous subject-specific courses across disciplines such as mathematics, sciences, humanities, languages and the arts.
Each AP course culminates in a standardized external examination, graded on a scale of 1 to 5. High scores may qualify students for university credit, advanced placement or course exemptions at institutions worldwide, particularly in the United States and Canada.
AP is often offered within American-curriculum schools and is recognised for its academic depth, subject flexibility and preparation for competitive university admissions. In South Korea, schools offering AP typically combine it with a US High School Diploma framework, providing students with both structured graduation requirements and advanced academic options.
